Top 3 generative AI uses, per healthcare CIOs

Healthcare is embracing generative artificial intelligence slower than other industries but using it most for personalization and customer experience, according to a survey of 600 IT leaders.

Of the sectors adopting the technology "very fast," healthcare and life sciences came in second to last, with 16% of executives saying they are moving at that pace, according to the October report from MIT Technology Review Insights and software company Databricks. The study surveyed senior executives such as CIOs and chief data or analytics officers from across the globe between June and August.

Here are the generative AI use cases health IT leaders said will bring the most value to their organizations over the next two years:

1. Personalization and customer experience

2. Supply chain optimization

3. Quality control

Here are where industries rank on which are adopting generative AI "very fast":

1. Telecommunications: 23%

2. Media and communications: 22%

3. Manufacturing: 20%

4. Energy: 17%

    Financial services: 17%

6. Healthcare and life sciences: 16%

    Retail and consumer packaged goods: 16%

8. Government and public sector: 7%
