Three hospitals on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula are considering an affiliation where the three facilities would partner together and join with a larger health system to increase access to specialized clinical services, according to a Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader report
Boards members of Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend, Wash., Forks (Wash.) Community Hospital and Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash., are considering proposals from seven major care providers to determine which, if any, are worth further exploration. The three hospitals have come together because they believe doing so will give them more clout with a larger system, according to the report.
The agreement would look something like this: the three hospitals would agree to direct patients to a specific tertiary care provider for specialized care in return for an affiliation that could provide the hospitals access to an electronic medical record system.
Healthcare systems that have offered proposals include Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash.; Franciscan Health Systems, which runs St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash; Providence Health & Services; University of Washington Medical; Virginia Mason Hospital and Medical Center; Swedish Medical Center; and MultiCare.
