University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina Announces Name Change

University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, based in Greenville, N.C., will change its name to Vidant Health, effective Jan. 25, according to a Daily Reflector report.

University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina wanted to rebrand the organization with a new name and logo to reflect its growth from a community hospital into a health system. It initially planned a name change to UHS, but those efforts were stymied due to trademark dispute over the initials.

In September, Universal Health Services in King of Prussia, Pa., sent a letter to University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina CEO Dave McRae saying the "UHS" name fell under its trademark privileges.
