Easton Hospital to furlough 3% of employees: 3 things to know

Easton (Pa.) Hospital is reducing its workforce as its corporate owner deals with financial struggles, according to The Morning Call.

Here are three things to know.

1. Less than 30 hospital employees, or approximately 3 percent, are being placed on furlough, or unpaid leave, while others are having their hours reduced, according to spokesman Stephen Wilson.

2. In an email to The Morning Call, Mr. Wilson said the staffing changes are being implemented "to serve the volume of patients in our care."

3. News of the job cuts come as Easton Hospital's owner, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, is struggling financially. CHS has plans to sell 17 hospitals to drive down debt. The company ended the most recent quarter with a net loss of $79 million, compared with a $52 million profit in the same period of 2015.
