Case Against Former CEO of New York's Hospital for Special Surgery Moves Forward

The case against the former CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City will proceed after a judge rejected several aspects of a motion to dismiss the suit, which alleges that John Reynolds solicited kickbacks from vendors, according to a Crain's Health Pulse report.

The suit was filed in 2009 by the former owner of a medical billing company, Healthwave. It claimed Mr. Reynolds, who left HSS in late 2006, solicited kickbacks from vendors in the form of consulting fees.

An HHS spokesperson called the allegations baseless and said the hospital will continue to contest the case in court.

HSS filed a motion to dismiss the suit in Nov. 2010. Following a July 1 decision by a New York Supreme Court judge, the case will proceed and the parties are due in court in October.
