CEO of California's Doctors Medical Center Steps Down

Joseph Stewart will step down as CEO and president of Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, Calif., according to San Francisco Business Journal report.

The hospital's board of directors announced Mr. Stewart's departure Saturday and did not release reasons for the move. Mr. Stewart served as CEO of the 189-bed hospital since June 2006. He was also interim CEO for approximately a year before being named to the permanent position.

Richard Reid, the hospital's CFO, will serve as interim CEO. The board is beginning a comprehensive search for a permanent CEO.

Doctors has battled severe financial problems in the past few years. The hospital has yet to announce a plan to meet California's deadline for acute-care hospitals to meet seismic safety requirements, according to the report.
