2 Texas Regional HIEs Are First to Create Inter-HIE Connections

Two regional health information exchanges in Texas announced they are enabling secure patient information exchange between their HIEs.

Healthcare Access San Antonio and Austin, Texas-based Integrated Care Collaboration are the first HIEs in the state, and among a small number of organizations in the United States, that have created inter-HIE connections, according to the release.

Rather than being limited by the boundaries of the HIE they participate in, physicians in the HASA and ICC networks can communicate about their patients' care across the networks with no boundaries. According to the release, this type of no-boundary exchange was made possible through a collaboration between two HIE vendors — Medicity, which powers the HASA exchange, and Centex System Support Services, which powers ICC.
