Osler Health Co-founder, CEO James Doulgeris: 4 key suggestions for health system improvement

Osler Health co-founder CEO James Doulgeris shared key insights on how health systems can improve operations and engage patients at Becker's Hospital Review Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable in Chicago, Nov. 12-14.

Here are the key insights:

1. Take advantage of gamification. Gamification is another way of engagement, Mr. Doulgeris said. "Asking 10 questions on diet, exercise, progression of the disease, like a Facebook quiz, is a way to get specific information to patients."

2. Address gaps in communication and care. "One of the ways to reach people out of the office and to reach them frequently is to use push messages through an app," Mr. Doulgeris said.

3. Take advantage of data quality and latency. "Good data means good analytics, and good analytics means you can do a good job," Mr. Doulgeris said.

4. Focus on cultural, behavioral and operational disparity. "To be sustainable you have to be changing and improving the health status of an entire population, and that requires a cultural, behavioral and operational change," Mr. Doulgeris said. Specifically, he recommended that health systems make a cultural change of welcoming patients and building patient relationships instead of simply admitting them.
