Idaho progresses toward Medicaid expansion vote

A vote on Medicaid expansion is closer to reality in Idaho, according to The Hill.

Reclaim Idaho, an activist campaign for of Medicaid expansion in Idaho, said it gathered the at least 56,192 signatures required for the issue to go before voters in November, the report states.

Reclaim Idaho said county clerks have until June 30 to verify the signatures are from registered voters, according to the report. If enough signatures are verified, the initiative will be placed on the November ballot.

Assuming the initiative is on the ballot and approved by voters, implementation would still be left to Idaho lawmakers and the governor, reports The Hill.

More than 30 states, plus Washington, D.C., have already opted to expand Medicaid under the ACA. In Idaho, up to 62,000 residents could gain access to coverage if the initiative is approved there.
