How EHR vendors fared in 2018: Earnings from Allscripts, Cerner & Meditech

Allscripts, Cerner and Meditech brought in significant earnings last year.

Here's how the EHR vendors fared, with companies listed in alphabetical order:

Allscripts posted $1.75 billion in revenue for the 2018 fiscal year, up 17 percent from $1.5 billion in 2017. The company also reported $266.4 million in non-GAAP — or generally accepted accounting principles — operating income, up less than 1 percent from $266.2 million in 2017.

Cerner reported $5.4 billion in revenue for the year, up 4 percent from $5.1 billion in 2017, and $774.8 million in operating earnings, down 19 percent from $960.5 million in 2017.

Meditech posted $488.2 million in revenue during 2018, up 2 percent from $480.9 million in 2017, and $64.8 million in operating income, up 1 percent from $64 million during 2017.

Many other popular EHR vendors, including eClinicalWorks and Epic, are privately held. Athenahealth went private as a result of its acquisition by private equity firm Veritas Capital and Elliott Management-affiliate Evergreen Coast Capital earlier this month.
