Obama Administration Allows California to Cut More Than $600M From Medicaid Program

President Barack Obama's administration has approved California's plans to cut hundreds of millions of dollars from Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

California expects to reduce rates by 10 percent to several providers, including physicians, clinics and nursing homes, according to the report. The cuts are expected to save California $623 million this year and next.

The California Medical Association said some physicians could receive as little as $11 per visit from Medicaid patients. CMA officials said several physicians might have to stop seeing Medi-Cal patients, which could also restrict medical access for the state's poor, according to the report.
