In a survey of surgeons commissioned by the American College of Surgeons, 8.9 percent of respondents said they were concerned they had made a "major medical error" in the past three months, according to an article on the survey in the Annals of Surgery.
Surgeons who were concerned about making an error showed greater signs of depression and emotional exhaustion.
Specifically, of 7,905 surgeons participating in the June 2008 survey, 700 reported concerns they had made a major medical error in the past three months.
