Hospitals, healthcare contribute to US job gains in August

The healthcare industry added 34,000 jobs last month, contributing to the nation's 142,000 new jobs in August, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Hospitals added about 7,000 jobs last month, making up for the job losses posted in July that amounted to about 4,400 after the BLS adjusted the numbers.

Ambulatory care settings continued to lead the healthcare industry in terms of jobs created, adding 22,800 jobs in August.

Even though the nation added 142,000 jobs last month, economists were expecting numbers closer to 225,000, and this was the smallest monthly gain in 2014, according to a Forbes report.
