Steward Health Care Requests Extra Time to Close Landmark Medical Center Merger

Boston-based Steward Health Care has asked Attorney General Peter Kilmartin to extend its July 27 deadline for closing on the sale of Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., according to a Woonsocket Call report.

The attorney general gave Steward 60 days to close on the sale as a condition of approval under the Hospital Conversions Act, according to the report. A spokesperson for the attorney general's office did not provide details as to why Steward asked for the extension or how much more time the organization wants. However, the spokesperson did suggest that the attorney general was frustrated with the timing of the request given the urgency of the sale, according to the report.

The attorney general's office will make a decision this week after reviewing the request, according to the report.
