Advocate, Sherman Health to Close Merger in June

Yesterday, Elgin, Ill.-based Sherman Health and Oak Brook, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care signed an agreement to merge with an anticipated closing date of June 1, pending regulatory approval.

The proposed affiliation has not been finalized and still requires sign-off from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

Advocate and Sherman announced plans to affiliate this past October. Sherman had considered more than a dozen partners before choosing Advocate.

Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System has been a vocal critic of the proposed merger, calling it a "land grab" that is mostly motivated by money instead of improvements to patient care, according to a Daily Herald report.
