Florida's Bert Fish Medical Center Reapproves Plan to Move Forward With Affiliation

The Southeast Volusia Hospital District Board has reapproved the decision to move forward with an affiliation for its Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

Bert Fish merged with Adventist Health's Florida Hospital in Orlando in July, but a lawsuit filed by the Bert Fish Foundation argued that the merger violated the state's Sunshine Law, because the meetings surrounding the merger were not made public.

After the suit was filed, the hospital district agreed to reschedule the meetings and yesterday reapproved the decision to move forward with an affiliation. However, instead of reapproving the Florida Hospital deal, the board agreed to accept new bids.
