CHI May Inject $200M in Kentucky's Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's, University of Louisville Merger

Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives could play a significant role in a planned merger between University of Louisville Hospital and Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare, also based in Louisville, according to an Insider Louisville report.

The three non-profits are expected to sign an agreement, which could become public after the University of Louisville's board meeting on Nov. 11.

Under the deal, CHI would inject approximately $200 million in capital into the new system. CHI is currently a joint venture partner with Jewish Hospital Healthcare Services in JHSMH. CHI's CARITAS Health Services merged with Jewish to form JHSMH in 2005.

The specific structure of the deal is yet to be determined, but CHI could have as much as a 70 percent stake in the overall company, according to the report.
