Robert Weaver, President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Indian Health Services, is under fire for potentially lying about the positions he held at Joplin, Mo.-based St. John's Regional Medical Center, according to CNBC.
Mr. Weaver alleges he held management and supervisory roles at St. John's between 1997 and 2006. However, multiple people who worked at the hospital during that time told The Wall Street Journal they did not recall ever meeting him. Another employee said he remembered someone named Rob Weaver, but told reporters he only held a minor administrative position.
Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., who sits on the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, said the questions about Mr. Weaver's experience must be answered if the committee is to seriously consider him as a nominee.
"Mr. Weaver's responses on the committee's formal questionnaire, his answers to my questions in person, and The Wall Street Journal article raise a number of very serious concerns for me," Mr. Udall told CNBC. "After our meeting in December, I asked Mr. Weaver to respond in writing to a number of detailed follow-up questions. I look forward to reviewing his answers to those questions, as well as the updates and corrections he pledged to make on the materials he originally submitted to the committee, when I receive them."
