Sutter Health RNs Plan Coordinated Strike for Dec. 22

Approximately 4,000 registered nurses who work at seven Sutter hospitals in California's Bay Area will hold a one-day strike on Dec. 22, according to a news release from the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United, which represents the registered nurses.

The one-day walkout will affect three Alta Bates Summit Medical Center facilities, two Mills-Peninsula Health Services facilities, Sutter Delta and Sutter Solano. The strike may also involve nurses at Eden Medical Center hospitals in Castro Valley and San Leandro, who are holding a membership strike vote today.

The nurses and Sutter Health officials have been unable to come to an agreement on numerous issues, including benefits, workplace safety standards and more, according to the union. The Sutter Health nurses will be joined by nearly 2,000 other registered nurses at Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center, who are protesting cuts in nurses' health coverage and patient care concerns.
