St. Mary Medical Center in California Changes Name to St. Joseph Health

St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, Calif., has changed its name to St. Joseph Health to better reflect its connection with parent, Orange, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health, according to a Daily Press report.

St. Mary has been a part of St. Joseph Health, formerly St. Joseph Health System, since 1992.

"We believe that this new name embraces the spirit of our new networks of care, which focus not just on hospitals, but on the broader delivery of healthcare through our medical groups, outpatient services and other healthcare programs," said Deborah Proctor, president and CEO of St. Joseph Health, in a statement. "The new name focuses on what is truly important and unites all of our entities — the overall health of our communities."

Earlier this year, St. Mary's offered to buy Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville, Calif., for $35 million, but the deal is still under review.
