HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill., has announced it did not receive approval of its proposal to build a replacement hospital and ambulatory care center in O'Fallon, Ill.
St. Elizabeth's must get a Certificate of Need to replace its current "obsolete" hospital with a modern facility that will be built on a 114-acre campus with an adjoining ambulatory care center, according to a news release. However, the proposal, which was voted on by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, received four affirmative votes, but did not get the five affirmative votes needed for it to proceed.
According to a news release, the "intent to deny" ruling by the board means that a second hearing will be required. St. Elizabeth's plans to address board members' questions and restate its case at a future board meeting, the release reads.
Maryann Reese, president and CEO of HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital, said in a statement that the hospital is optimistic the proposal will get the five affirmative votes needed when more board members are present, and hopes the project is heard by all board members at an upcoming meeting.
St. Elizabeth's proposed replacement hospital would include 144 private patient rooms, an emergency department, operating rooms, an advanced intensive care unit and inpatient rehabilitation. St. Elizabeth's also plans to offer a variety of inpatient and outpatient services at the new facility, including cancer care, modern birthing suites, telehealth consultations featuring accredited stroke care and heart care.
