Institute of Medicine Elects 65 New Members, 4 Foreign Associates

The Institute of Medicine elected 65 new members and four foreign associates at its 40th annual meeting yesterday, according to an IOM news release.

Considered one of the highest honors in the field of health and medicine, election into the IOM recognizes individuals who have made outstanding professional achievements and maintained commitments to service.

New members were elected by current members. Along with the fields of medical science, healthcare and public health, least 25 percent of IOM members are selected from outside the health profession — including natural, social and behavioral sciences; law; engineering; and the humanities.

Including the new members announced yesterday, IOM's total membership now stands at 1,817.
