CaroMont Health CEO Valinda Rutledge Heads to CMS

Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health CEO Valinda Rutledge will step down from her post at the health system to serve as director of the Patient Care Models Group at CMS' new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, according to a CaroMont news release.

"The Innovation Center mission is to support physicians, nurses, hospital leaders and others in creating new care models that deliver better care, better health and reduced costs through improvement," said Richard Gilfillan, MD, acting director of the Innovation Center. "Valinda is perfectly suited to be a leader in that effort. Most recently, her work as CEO of CaroMont Health demonstrates that she is an innovative leader who understands the importance of care model redesign. We are thrilled to have her joining our team."

Ms. Rutledge said of her appointment, "It is humbling to have the opportunity to make a difference on a national scale in terms of healthcare quality. I embrace this challenge and look forward to collaborating with my CEO colleagues throughout the country to transform care."
