University of Missouri Health Care Radiology May Face Scrutiny

The department of radiology at Columbia.-based University of Missouri Health Care may be under investigation, according to Columbia Daily Tribune report.

Sources told the Tribune that radiology employees were instructed to not delete emails or destroy documents, which suggests the department is under scrutiny, according to the report. Another sign of a potential investigation is the recent resignation of Ken Rall, MD, as chairman of the radiology department.

In the 1980s, Dr. Rall was convicted of signing Medicaid refund checks to himself. In addition, in Dec. 2010, MU Health Care conducted an internal audit of physician orders for radiology services at the Women's and Children's Hospital. The audit revealed that 62.5 percent of the cases did not have physician orders to support the services provided. The health system subsequently improved the physician order process.

Health system officials did not comment in the report.
