Illinois' St. Mary's Hospital Closes Some Services, Lays Off 28 Employees

St. Mary's Hospital in Streator, Ill., is planning to close its extended care unit, adult day services, audiology, supportive care and athletic training due to financial pressures, according to a Pantagraph report.

Twenty-eight full-time employees will lose their jobs due to the cuts. The hospital will stop accepting admissions to the extended care unit on July 22 and will request state approval to close the unit within several months. Audiology, supportive care and athletic training will also end July 22. Adult day services will end Sept. 30.

The closures will help the hospital refocus on core services, including family care, intensive care and women's health units, same-day surgery and outpatient services, according to the report.
