Maryland's Meritus Medical Center Eliminates 15 Positions

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md., part of Hagerstown-based Meritus Health, is eliminating approximately 15 positions due to campus consolidation, according to a Herald-Mail report.

The hospital is not reducing the overall number of employees, which is more than 3,000. The affected employees, which include those in maintenance, marketing, human resources and finance, will be offered other jobs at the hospital.

The hospital put a seven-day freeze on open positions for unit secretaries, phlebotomists, medical secretaries and nursing assistants so the affected employees could apply first. Meritus will pay for retraining the employees may need to qualify for those roles.

Meritus Medical Center, formerly called Washington County Hospital, moved to the same campus as the medical mall Robinwood Professional Center in Dec. 2010.
