Employees at Florida's Memorial Hospitals Allegedly Used Kickbacks for Home Improvements

A largescale kickback scheme allegedly occurred at two hospitals within the Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Healthcare System, according to a Miami Herald report.

Adil Osman, Elliot Gordon and Anthony Merola have been charged for taking kickbacks from vendors.

Adil Osman, former director of facilities management at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Fla., allegedly selected companies in exchange for cash and home improvements, such as a $12,000 electric generator and $3,625 for a swimming pool. The allegations concern Mr. Osman's actions from 2004-July 2008.

Mr. Gordon and Mr. Merola, former employees of Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, pleaded guilty to a similar kickback scheme with vendors. They are considered co-conspirators in Mr. Osman's indictment, according to the report. Mr. Gordon's wife has also been charged with filing a false tax return that did not reflect kickback payments received to make improvements on her home.

Seven vendors have been indicted as well.
