UPMC leads $17M funding round for mental health app

Lantern, an online mental health wellness service, has closed a $17 million funding round, led by Pittsburgh-based UPMC.

Additionally, the health system plans to integrate Lantern's services into its clinical settings.

"We are excited about reaching more people with behavioral health issues through this readily accessible, scalable, and cost-effective platform," said Tal Heppenstall, president of UPMC Enterprises, the commercialization arm of UPMC. UPMC Enterprises spearheaded the investment. "This partnership is an excellent example of our mission at UPMC Enterprises: finding creative solutions and technologies to solve some of the most challenging problems in healthcare."
