Will NFL coach's firing draw penalty for this children's hospital?

The Green Bay Packers recently fired head coach Mike McCarthy, and while football fans across Wisconsin are wondering how the move will affect their team, the team at Madison, Wis.-based American Family Children's Hospital is wondering how it will affect their patients, according to WKOW.

Mr. McCarthy's annual golf tournament and dinner has raised $2 million for the hospital in the last two years, according to Jim Gilmore, the hospital's development director. Mr. McCarthy and his wife Jessica formed an immediate connection with the hospital's patients when they first visited in 2009, Mr. Gilmore said.

"When he walked into that room, they just lit up," said Mr. Gilmore. "He bared his soul with these families, and in that five to 10 minutes, established a one-on-one relationship with them."

Mr. Gilmore said he is not sure if the McCarthys will continue their relationship with the hospital, but he thinks they will.

"I'm quite confident that we will continue our relationship with coach and Jessica well beyond his time as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. He's truly become a friend of the Children's Hospital," said Mr. Gilmore.
