Google lays off head of mental health and wellness

Google has laid off 12,000 people, one of which includes its head of mental health and wellbeing.

Kristin Maczko, PhD, director of global mental health and wellbeing at Google, who spent 15 years at the company, was laid off alongside other team members who were in the mental health and wellbeing department at the company.

Dr. Maczko announced her layoff via a LinkedIn post stating "to the many people on the Mental Health and Wellbeing team whose roles were eliminated, thank you for everything that you have done to improve the wellbeing of Googlers."

Her departure comes as the tech giant continues to reduce executive bonuses, restructure its workforce and sunset some of its healthcare projects.
