FDA approves port site closure device

Medeon Biodesign recently earned Food and Drug Administration approval for AbClose, a port site closure device.

The device, which works like a sewing machine, can suture incision sites made during laparoscopic surgeries in less than 60 seconds.

"AbCloseTM is designed to reduce time, cost and risk of port site closure and minimize the frustrations experienced by surgical teams at the end of the surgical procedure. AbCloseTM enables secure and precise delivery of 180-degree suture bites on fascia of nearly all thicknesses," said Yue-Teh Jang, PhD, chairman and CEO of Taiwan-based Medeon Biodesign.
