UnitedHealthcare Will Follow PPACA Provisions Regardless of Supreme Court Decision

Officials at UnitedHealthcare, the largest health insurer in the country, said the company will maintain several provisions required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act regardless of the Supreme Court's decision on the law.

The payor will continue to provide preventive health services without co-pays or out-of-pocket charges, and adult children up to the age of 26 will also be able to stay on their parents' plans. UnitedHealthcare will also continue to follow the PPACA's prohibition on lifetime limits for insurance payouts and rescinding coverage after a customer becomes ill.

'The protections we are voluntarily extending are good for people's health, promote broader access to quality care and contribute to helping control rising healthcare costs," Stephen J. Hemsley, president and CEO of UnitedHealth Group, said in the report. "These provisions are compatible with our mission and continue our operating practices."
