Supreme Court Won't Fast-Track Reform Challenge

The Supreme Court announced it would not skip the appeals process and fast-track its review of a Virginia challenge of the healthcare reform law, according to a report by The Hill.

Fast-tracking the case would only have sped up a final decision by a few months, considering that lower courts have been moving the case along at a relatively fast pace. The high court is likely to rule on the law before the 2012 elections.

Oral arguments on the Virginia case, which challenges the law's individual mandate to buy health insurance, are scheduled on May 10. Meanwhile, a Florida judge's decision to strike down the whole law, based on a challenge by 26 states, will be heard by an appeals court in Atlanta on June 8.
