Cape Cod Hospital in Massachusetts Plans ED Expansion

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., is planning a 26,500-square-foot emergency department expansion, according to a Barnstable Patriot report.

The ED was built to accommodate 60,000 patients, but the ED saw 91,000 patients last year and expects to see 92,000 this year. The expansion would increase the number of beds from 28 to 54 and would provide more privacy.

The Cape Cod Commission will review the proposed project Sept. 25. The hospital is seeking a hardship exemption from full Development of Regional Impact review on the grounds that the expansion is a community benefit project, according to the report.
