A blog post from Select International explores those skills that are most important for teams to effectively function.
Select International's Alissa Parr, PhD, explores four soft skills that can make or break a team. They include:
1. Communication and listening skills.
2. Interpersonal skills.
3. Adaptability.
4. Positive attitude.
In addition to these individual-level factors, Dr. Parr said it is also important to focus on team-level factors. "For example, when putting together a team of individuals, you should think about team diversity," she wrote. "More specifically, it's helpful to choose team members that have different backgrounds, perspectives and skill sets. This diversity can facilitate more creative ideas and a more cohesive product."
