Medical Staff at North Carolina's Beaufort Regional Approves Merger With University Health of Eastern Carolina

The medical staff of Beaufort Regional Health System in Washington, N.C., has approved a plan to merge with Greenville, N.C.-based University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, according to a Washington Daily News report.

Four systems proposed an affiliation with BRHS: University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina; Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems; Plano, Texas-based LHP Hospital Group; and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Brim Healthcare.

University Health's plan includes a 20-year lease for a prepaid lease payment of $18.1 million, according to the report.

The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners will have the final vote on the merger. The medical staff also endorsed a resolution that would ask all commissioners to pledge not to accept political donations from any of the health systems that have offered bids, according to the report.
