Michigan Physician Group Enters Unique Co-Management Deal With St. John Providence Health

More than 50 physicians with Oakland Physician Professional Management Group will offer advice to St. John Macomb-Oakland-Hospital, Oakland Center in Madison Heights, Mich., under a two-year management agreement, according to an American Medical News report.

While co-management agreements between physician groups and hospitals are on the rise, the deal between St. John's and OPPMG is considered unique in that it contracts with physicians to work on various issues affecting the entire institution. Other agreements usually involve establishing a company that will manage a specific service line or department for a hospital, according to the report.

The physicians will deliver advice on how the hospital can improve patient safety and satisfaction, quality of care and efficiency, and they will be paid for their time working on various projects. Most of the specialists and primary care physicians are in private practice.

St. John Macomb is a hospital within the St. John Providence Health System.
