Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson, part of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, has established the Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities, according to a hospital news release.
The center was created to reduce differences in incidence, prevalence, mortality, burden of cancer and related adverse health conditions among different populations. These differences may occur among populations of different gender, age, race and ethnicity, income, social class, disability, geographic location or sexual orientation.
The center will support disparities-focused research, researcher and clinician education, training and teaching and increased patient access to supportive services, such as palliative care, cancer screening and prevention and survivorship programs, according to the release.
