University of Iowa Hospitals Reports $75M Revenue Increase Compared to Last Year

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City reached total revenues of $814 million for fiscal year 2011, representing a $75 million increase from last year, according to a Daily Iowan news report.

According to the news report, hospital officials said the revenue increase principally stems from increased patient admissions to the health system's emergency department. This fiscal year's total revenue gives the health system nearly $13 million surplus over budgeted expenses. Also, up until May 2011, the health system's operating margin increased nearly two-fold what officials budgeted for ending the fiscal year.
