Providence Health & Services to Cut 250 Employees

Olympia, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services has announced it will lay off 8 percent of its workers, or about 250 full-time equivalent employees, in order to close a $28 million budget gap for 2011, according to a The Olympian report.

The health system attributed the gap to cuts to the states' Medicaid program.

Approximately 115 employees have volunteered for a severance program, lessening the impact of the cuts, according to the report.
