Oklahoma's Valley View Regional Prevails in Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Okla., has prevailed in a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by heart surgeon Troy Norred, MD, according to an Ada Evening News report.

Dr. Norred filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Valley View Regional in 2009, accusing the hospital administration of trying to "sully" his reputation as a physician, according to the news report. He also accuses hospital administrators of allegedly terminating him for treating a patient at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City rather than Valley View Regional, which resulted in lost revenue.

Court documents show Dr. Norred was seeking more than $10,000 in damages but told the media the lawsuit was not about the money but about patient care. In response to the jury's decision to side with the hospital, Valley View Regional CEO Kent Rogers issue a statement, expressing appreciation for the jury's consideration of the evidence.
