Louisiana Physicians to Pay Back $17M in Medicaid Overpayments

The Louisiana State Health Department has informed Louisiana doctors they will have to pay back a collective $17 million in Medicaid overpayments because the Department of Health and Hospitals failed to make Medicaid budget cuts on time, according to a WWLTV report.

The cuts would mean physicians who once received Medicaid reimbursements at 90 to 120 percent for an adult would receive only 80 percent. Many physicians say the cuts could force them out of practice.

The DHH said the department failed to meet the Medicaid budget cut deadline because of a computer glitch, according to the report.
