7 Recent Healthcare Data Breaches

Here are seven data breaches that occurred within the past month, starting with the most recent.

1. A hacker broke into a server at the North East King County Regional Public Safety Communication Agency in Washington state, gaining access to 6,000 medical responses for Duvall Fire District 45, Skykomish Fire Department and Snoqualmie Pass Fire & Rescue.

2. The theft of an unencrypted, password-protected computer from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga., compromised the information of 6,700 patients.

3. The theft of a laptop from employee's office at Albuquerque-based New Mexico Oncology and Hematology Consultants compromised the information of 12,354 patients.

4. Officials at Riverside Health System in Newport News, Va., discovered an employee had been inappropriately accessing patient records between September 2009 and October 2013.

5. Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla., announced a malware infestation on a university computer may have exposed the information of Barry University Foot and Ankle Institute patients.

6. The state of Colorado notified 1,918 Medicaid beneficiaries of a data breach.

7. A computer that may contain patient records and information was stolen from Inspira Medical Center Vineland (N.J.).
