Highest Average Healthcare Salaries Found in California, Alaska

Based on figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the highest salaries for healthcare practitioners and healthcare support staff are in California and Alaska, according to a Business Journal report.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics divides healthcare pay into two categories: "Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations" and "Healthcare Support Occupations." HPTO includes any type of physician, surgeon or other medical professional, and HSO includes medical assistants, therapists and aides.

California had the highest salaries in the HPTO sector, according to the report. Napa had the highest individual annual salary average at $107,000, while San Jose ($106,590), Oakland ($96,980) and San Francisco ($95,320) were close behind.

Alaska cities had the two highest averages in the HSO sector. Average salaries in Anchorage were the highest of any area in the United States at $37,330, and Fairbanks ($36,470) placed second overall, according to the report.
