Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital CEO Brought Home $273K in 2009

Ken Underwood, CEO of Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister, Calif., is the highest-paid employee in the San Benito Health Care District, bringing home $273,956 in total compensation in 2009, according to a Pinnacle News report.

The second highest salary earned in the district in 2009 — the most recent year for which data is available — was that of an intensive care nurse on a 12-hour shift. The nurse made $265,018 over the course of the year. The third- and fourth-highest paid employees were the vice president of nursing administration ($230,000) and a medical surgical floor nurse ($211,153).

San Benito Health Care District is made up of 684 employees. The state released salary and benefit information for more than 600,000 city and county employees around California in Oct. 2010.
