Beaumont Hospital Nurse Receives Nightingale Award for Research Geared Toward New Nurses

Caroline Medcoff, RN, a nurse at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., has received an Oakland University Nightingale Award for her leadership in mentoring nurses.

Ms. Medcoff was the lead investigator of a study examining the challenges and stressors experienced by graduate nurses during their first year of practice. The findings are incorporated in a new nurse orientation program. She also led a team that designed an innovative research-based nurse residency program that uses simulation, clinical narratives and online discussion boards.

The Nightingale Awards were presented to three other Beaumont Hospital nurses for their leadership. Winners are selected from nominations by peers, supervisors, friends or patients for superior service and contributions in one of eight specialty areas.
