Jersey City Medical Center to Tie Employee Bonuses to Performance

Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center's three unions are voting on a contract that would tie employee bonuses to performance metrics, according to a report by The Jersey Journal.

The contract would incentivize quality care by tying union employee bonuses to quality performance, just as the hospital's reimbursements are increasingly tied to performance, according to the report.

"With the changes in healthcare reflected nationally we asked our unions to work with us in meeting these new goals. These are based around the hospital's four pillars of patient safety, clinical quality, patient satisfaction/engagement and the hospital's overall financial picture," a spokesperson told The Jersey Journal.

The unions voting on the contract this week include the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees 1199J and the AFSCME Council 52 locals 2254 and 3680.
