Erectile dysfunction gel receives FDA green light

An over-the-counter topical treatment for men with erectile dysfunction on May 12 was authorized by the FDA for marketing. Futura Medical's Eroxon gel can now be marketed as a de novo medical device.

The drug already can be purchased in Belgium as of 2021 and in the U.K. as of 2022.

CNN noted in a June 12 report that the drug's product notes said "the gel comes in a single-dose tube and should be applied to the head of the penis for 15 seconds before sex. Marketing materials for the product claim that it can help users get an erection within 10 minutes of application."

Currently, Futura does not have a partner to market Eroxon in the United States, but "some financial analysts predict that the product could launch in 2025," the CNN report said.
