Detroit Medical Center Breaks Ground on $30M Surgical Expansion, Renovation

The Detroit Medical Center has announced (pdf) that it broke ground on a $30 million renovation and expansion of its surgical facilities at Harper University and Hutzel Women's hospitals yesterday.

The project will feature five new operating rooms, including one hybrid OR, 26 new preoperative cubicles, 22 new post-anesthesia unit cubicles, two new isolation rooms, new electronic information systems and expansions of several pre- and postoperative areas.

The upgrades are part of a nearly $1 billion investment by Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, which acquired DMC roughly one year ago.
