8 Hospital Operating Room Construction Projects Planned, Completed

Here are eight hospital operating room construction projects that are planned or completed, listed in descending chronological order.

1. Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky., is constructing new surgical suites at its heart center as part of a $12.3 million expansion project.

2. Memorial Medical Center in Ludington, Mich., is planning a $14 million renovation that will include a new operating room. Other renovations will include a new emergency department, a new patient entrance and improvements to outpatient services.

3. Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning, S.C., is constructing new operating rooms as part of Clarendon Health System's expansion plans for its facilities. The project will nearly double the square footage of space and will include three ORs, two endoscopy suites, an isolation room and areas for pre-op, recovery and eye surgeries.

4. After six months, SwedishAmerican Medical Center/Belvidere (Ill.) completed a $3.6 million renovation of two operating suites.

5. Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Ill., opened its $60 million addition in November after two years of construction. The 160,000 square-foot East Tower houses 12 operating rooms, one OR dedicated to cesarean sections, 18 private intensive care unit rooms and 23 family-centered private rooms.

6. After two years of construction, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., completed a new wing that includes pediatric emergency services, operating rooms and a pharmacy.

7. Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, Fla., is planning a $20-$25 million project to upgrade its operating rooms.

8. The Reading (Pa.) Hospital and Medical Center is planning a new $189 million surgical center that will consolidate the hospital's surgical services.
